QD Vision’s Color IQ Optical Components Win SID Gold Component of the Year Award

QD Vision, Inc., manufacturer of optical components for LCD applications, received the Gold Component of the Year Award from the Society for Information Display (SID) for its Color IQ optical components. This award represents one of the industry’s highest honors. The award will be presented at the SID symposium luncheon at Display Week in Vancouver, British Columbia and will be accepted by QD Vision CEO, Jason Carlson.

Winners of 18th Annual Display Industry Awards Announced by SID

The Society for Information Display (SID), the leading global organization dedicated to the advancement of electronic display technology, today announced the winners of its 18th annual Display Industry Awards. The honorees will be recognized during a special luncheon on Wednesday, May 22, as part of Display Week 2013—SID's annual International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, taking place May 19-24 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, Canada.

Joint Quantum Institute Establishes New Record for Generating Heralded Photons

Entanglement, by general consensus of physicists, is the weirdest part of quantum science. To say that two particles, A and B, are entangled means that they are actually two parts of an inseparable quantum thing. An important consequence of this inherent kinship is that measuring a property of A (say, the particle's polarization) is necessarily to know the corresponding property of B, even if you're not there with a detector to observe B and even if (as explained below) the existence of that property had no prior fixed value until the moment particle A was detected.

Innsbruck Physicists Gain Deep Insight into Nature of Quantum Mechanical Phase Transitions

Innsbruck physicists led by Rainer Blatt and Peter Zoller experimentally gained a deep insight into the nature of quantum mechanical phase transitions. They are the first scientists that simulated the competition between two rival dynamical processes at a novel type of transition between two quantum mechanical orders. They have published the results of their work in the journal Nature Physics.

A new window into the nature of the universe may be possible with a device proposed by scientists at the University of Nevada, Reno and Stanford University that would detect elusive gravity waves from the other end of the cosmos.
