UMD Microfluidic Device Manipulates and Positions Quantum Dots

Finding ways to see, position, measure, and accurately manipulate nanoscale objects is an ongoing challenge for researchers developing the next generation of ultra-compact electronics, sensors and optical devices. Even the most advanced conventional microscopes are limited by diffraction of the shortest wavelength of visible light, about 400 nanometers, rendering them unable to produce images or measurements of objects that are significantly smaller than this threshold.

Welser, the Chief Technology Officer of its wholly owned subsidiary, Magnolia Solar, Inc., presented a paper at the SPIE Photonic West Conference on the Physics, Simulations and Photonic Engineering for Photovoltaic Devices II. Researcher to Advance Study of Quantum Dots Core-Shell Interface with NSF Award

Colin Heyes, an assistant professor in the department of chemistry and biochemistry in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has received a $650,000 Faculty Early Career Development Program award from the National Science Foundation. The award was given to further his investigation of the interfaces between the core and shell of colloidal quantum dots.
