This innovation, resulting in nanometer resolution, was made possible by making the source (the emitter) of the illumination quite small and by moving it quite close to the object being imaged.

Ghent University Leads Research and Training Program on Quantum Dots

Professor François Légaré of the INRS Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre has been awarded the 2015 Herzberg Medal by the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) in recognition of his outstanding contributions in ultrafast molecular imaging and the development of high peak power infrared lasers for high harmonic generation and tissue imaging using optical nonlinear microscopy.

QMUL Researchers Create Carbon Quantum Dots from Chemicals in Crustacean Shells

The materials chitin and chitosan found in the shells are abundant and significantly cheaper to produce than the expensive metals such as ruthenium, which is similar to platinum, that are currently used in making nanostructured solar-cells.

Scientists working with Natcore Technology Inc. in the Rice University laboratories of Prof. Andrew Barron, a Natcore co-founder, have successfully formed a heterojunction solar cell using germanium quantum dots on an ordinary n-type silicon wafer.
