The Centre for Quantum Technologies has launched Quantum Shorts 2012, a competition to create the best short film no longer than 3 minutes based on ideas associated with quantum physics. Top short films will be exhibited on newscientist.com, a well-known science news website.
The Centre for Quantum Technologies has organized the competition in order to promote interest in quantum technologies and quantum theory as a depiction of the working principle of the world.
The competition is open to aspiring quantum filmmakers across the world and its judging panel will comprise well-known writers, film-makers and physicists. The panelists include Artur Ekert, Director at the Centre for Quantum Technologies, Jeremy Webb, Editor-in-Chief at New Scientist, and Lisa Randall, a renowned physicist and author, to name a few.
Media partner for Quantum Shorts 2012 is New Scientist, an eminent science and technology magazine. The magazine will advertise the competition and will showcase the top 10 films on its website. Last date of submission of videos is December 1, 2012. The judging panel will select a winner and a runner up who will receive a trophy and cash prizes. Shortlisted entries will also be competing for a people’s prize, which will be presented after a public vote.
