Role of Quantum Mechanics in Quest for Sustainable Energy

Emily Carter, founding director of Princeton University's Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, will describe the essential role of quantum mechanics in the quest for sustainable energy in a free public lecture at UCLA.

The lecture, titled "Quantum Mechanics and the Future of the Planet," will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the UCLA Anderson School's Korn Convocation Hall (map). Registration is required; please click here to RSVP.

Carter, Princeton's Gerhard R. Andlinger Professor in Energy and the Environment and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, was a UCLA faculty member from 1988 through 2004. She will highlight her research on energy systems such as fuel cells and fusion reactors.

The lecture is part of the UCLA Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics workshop, "Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future: Batteries and Fuel Cells." It is also part of a series of "Mathematics of Planet Earth" lectures around the world that are sponsored by the Simons Foundation, which advances research in mathematics and the basic sciences.
