The CdSe core has a highly uniform structure with a narrow particle size distribution of ±10%. The CdS or ZnSe shell is below 1nm and provides stability to the core. The second shell of ZnS has a thickness range of 1-2nm and provides additional stability. The characteristics and corresponding ligand capping agent for each structure are listed in the following table:

- High quantum yield
- Emission range 525-625nm
- Flexibility for ink or composite preparation
- Homogeneous dispersions in different non-polar solvents possible
- Scalability (manufactured through continuous flow)
- High batch-to-batch reproducibility (TEM available for each lot)
The typical absorption and emission spectra for CdSe core quantum dots are illustrated in Figure 2, and Figure 3 shows a TEM-image of single quantum dots.
